The International Rice Functional Genomics Working Group
The IRFGC largely evolved as the successor to previous
successful collaboration of the International Rice Functional Genomics
Working Group [1]. The goals of this working group were to
- Build a research community with a shared vision on rice functional
genomics
- Create a common resource platform to broaden access to and promote
sharing of the new genetic and genomic knowledge, tools, and resources of
functional genomics
- Gain efficiency and accelerate application of functional genomics to
rice improvement

A sequence of formative meetings were held by the working group to discuss
functional genomics research objectives:
- Rockefeller Foundation Rice Biotech, Phuket, Thailand, September,
1999.
- Plant and
Animal Genome, San Diego, January, 2000
- International
Rice Genetics Symposium, IRRI, October, 2000
In addition, two microarray
training workshops were held at IRRI.
