The International Rice Functional Genomics Working Group

The IRFGC largely evolved as the successor to previous successful collaboration of the International Rice Functional Genomics Working Group [1]. The goals of this working group were to

Build a research community with a shared vision on rice functional genomics
Create a common resource platform to broaden access to and promote sharing of the new genetic and genomic knowledge, tools, and resources of functional genomics
Gain efficiency and accelerate application of functional genomics to rice improvement

A sequence of formative meetings were held by the working group to discuss functional genomics research objectives:

Rockefeller Foundation Rice Biotech, Phuket, Thailand, September, 1999.
Plant and Animal Genome, San Diego, January, 2000
International Rice Genetics Symposium, IRRI, October, 2000

In addition, two microarray training workshops were held at IRRI.
